Back up & restore your Health Connect data

Regularly back up your Health Connect data to safeguard your health, fitness, and medical journey. If you lose or damage your device, you can restore your valuable information easily.

Important: To move your Health Connect data when switching phones with a cable, you can use device-to-device transfer. Learn more about device to device transfer.

Export & import your Health Connect data

You can easily export your Health Connect data to a cloud storage provider and import it in Health Connect on your other device. This helps you keep your data safe.

Important: Export and import of health records isn’t supported at this time.

What you need

To use this feature, you need an Android device with version 14 and up.

Export your Health Connect data

You can set a periodical data export. Your Health Connect data is bundled in a zip file and saved to a cloud storage provider of your choice. You can schedule these exports on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. In the search bar, search Health Connect.
  3. Tap Manage data and then Backup and restore and then Scheduled export.
  4. Turn Scheduled export on or off.
    • Select a frequency between daily, weekly, or monthly exports.
  5. Tap Next.

Save to a cloud provider

  1. From a list of cloud storage apps already installed on your device, select where you want to save your data.
    • If you don’t have a cloud storage app, download one from Google Play.
  2. Select a location in the app.
    • By default, the file is named “Health Connect.zip.” You can rename it if you want.
  3. Tap Save.

Tip: After a successful export, you can find the file name, app where it was exported to and the date on which the file was exported.

Turn Scheduled export on or off

  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. In the search bar, search Health Connect.
  3. Tap Manage data and then Backup and restore and then Scheduled export.
  4. Turn Scheduled export on or off.

Tip: If you turn off “Scheduled export,” it won’t delete your previously exported data automatically.

Import your Health Connect data

  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. In the search bar, search Health Connect.
  3. Tap Manage data and then Backup and restore and then Import data.
  4. Select the app where you previously exported your data to.
  5. Tap Next.
  6. Select the Health Connect data file you want to import.
    • By default, the file is named “Health Connect.zip.”
    • If you’ve changed the file name during export, find the file with the updated file name.
  7. To confirm your data import, tap Import.

Delete your exported data

You can delete the data you previously exported from Health Connect.

  1. Go to the cloud storage app you chose to export your data to.
  2. To delete, find the file by the default name “Health Connect.zip.”
    • If you’ve changed the file name during export, find the file with the updated file name.
